The Basics:

This nautical program delves into the practical application of pilotage and passage planning during daylight hours on coastal waters. Integrating traditional and electronic navigational techniques, the course aims to instill the proficiency required for completing short coastal passages by day. Tailored for those aspiring to navigate larger and more powerful powerboats, it builds upon the foundational knowledge of the Level 2 course. Participants will advance their skills in cruising at planing speed and mastering more complex boat handling. Recommended for those considering progression to the Advanced course, this versatile training can be conducted on either planing or displacement boats at our Algarve-based nautical school.

Required Experience:

Candidates should be competent to the standard of RYA Powerboat Level 2. It is strongly recommended that candidates hold a first aid and VHF/SRC operator's certificate and have knowledge to the level of Day Skipper theory.

Content:

This course covers the essentials of planning a day cruise, including boat preparation, proficient boat handling, pilotage, passage making, and effective man overboard procedures.

Certificate issuing criteria:

Able to plan and execute short coastal passages by day

Format:

Predominantly practical but with some classroom elements. The aim of the practical session is to put into practice the theory and complete a passage.
